CLA is sensitive to the current situation faced by the non-profit and arts sector within COVID-19. We are currently offering our workshops at a sliding scale or "pay what you can" price. While CLA is a nonprofit we are also in need of your continued support but want to ensure accessibility of our content and workshops to all no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please contact renee.reizman@calawyersforthearts.org for waiver code.

When do I need to get permission to make a film about a subject? What is the right of publicity, and is that different from life story rights or likeness rights? What kinds of releases do I need to get? UC Irvine Law School professor Jack I. Lerner will join us to address all of these questions, and more. He will talk about the legal and ethical considerations of obtaining life story rights from real people, discuss the legal doctrines that govern these relationships, and the industry norms that shape them. He will also go over the basic components of a life story rights agreement. This event will be suitable both for non-lawyers and for lawyers who want to learn more..
