About this event
A good grantwriter is made, not born. Anyone can write a polished, competitive proposal – and enjoy it!
Through instructor-led topic orientations, small-group discussions/activities, and independent readings and reflection, participants will gain tools for success at each stage of the grant lifecycle, from prospecting and planning to writing and award stewardship. Together, we will consider nonprofit and giving trends, learn to interpret application questions and respond strategically, and gain practice in writing proposal sections.
Understanding of:
- Funder expectations
- Authentic storytelling and communication
- Foundation vs. government grantsmanship
- Basic budgeting principles
- Variety of documents that grantwriters produce

Virtual Certificate
Optimized for the virtual environment, this 4-session certificate program will consist of presentations, group discussions, breakout group sessions, polls and short breaks. This is an opportunity to do a deep dive on a new topic and leave with tools that you can put in to practice immediately.
Instructor
Janine Perron, M.A. – Principal, JMP Grants Consulting
A 24-year veteran of the nonprofit fundraising and grantmaking spheres, Janine has led institutional giving programs at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, UCLA Hammer Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Organizational Grant Program of the Los Angeles County Art Commission. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale University and earned an M.A. from the University of Chicago.
