There is still time for more choruses to join the commissioning consortium for “Three Water Songs” by David Avshalomov, co-sponsored by Deborah Simpkin King (Project:Encore, Ember). Deadline is Dec. 15. Suitable for advanced high school to professional choruses; fees on a sliding scale by type ($100 to $250).

    First two poems:

ALL DAY I HEAR THE NOISE OF WATERS
    by James Joyce

All day I hear the noise of waters making moan,
Sad as the sea-bird is when, going forth alone,
He hears the winds cry to the water’s monotone.

The grey winds, the cold winds are blowing where I go.
I hear the noise of many waters far below.
All day, all night, I hear them flowing to and fro.

    **

    WATERFALL AT LU-SHAN
    by Li Po

Sunlight streams on the river stones.
From high above, the river steadily plunges–
three thousand feet of sparkling water–
the Milky Way pouring down from heaven.

Third text: Avshalomov’s own rant/chant text about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Avshalomov update: “I have finished the first setting; the second is in draft. I encourage choruses to jump in now.”

A full description of the plan for each piece, the text of the third piece, and the first version of the first piece can be seen here:
