    Designed for those newer to or considering a nonprofit management role, this hands-on crash course will give you an overview of the key competencies of a nonprofit manager. Over the two session this fast paced class will cover six core nonprofit operations topics:

    • Governance and Board of Directors – nonprofits are unique because we have boards that represent the community and are stewards of our cause. We’ll cover the key roles and responsibilities of highly effective boards, currently trends in board management and engagement board members to further the mission of the organization.
    • Strategic Planning – setting a realistic strategic direction is critical is creating a strong foundation to meet emerging needs. We’ll discuss how to prepare for strategic planning and what are the key elements and components to develop a living strategic plan, with the flexibility to address the changing landscape.
    • Managing Change – managers of today must be able to effectively navigate and lead their staff through the changing environment.
    • Program Planning – to effectively implement the strategic planning, programs must be designed intentionally to help further the organization’s mission. The discussion will include where to start, who should be involved, designing your program, and defining impact.
    • Fund Development – this will include an overview of what the funding landscape currently looks like, organizational readiness for fundraising, and how to make an ask when it comes to approaching potential funders.
    • Financial, Legal, HR – we will discuss the key questions and resources to address the fundamental financial, legal, and HR compliance issues that managers face

    Virtual Seminar

    Optimized for the virtual environment, this two-day (½ days) seminar will consist of presentations, group discussions, breakout group sessions, polls, and short breaks. This is an opportunity to do a deep dive into a new topic and leave with tools that you can put into practice immediately.

    Leslie Robin - Senior Strategist, Center for Nonprofit Management

    Leslie Robin is a coach, consultant, and trainer with over 30 years of expertise in the nonprofit philanthropic field at the local and national levels. At CNM, Leslie utilizes her consulting, training, and executive coaching skills to support the nonprofit industry and its leaders to address emerging issues. Leslie oversees CNM Leadership Development programs to equip managers and leaders with the skills necessary to lead a diverse and changing workplace. She is a trailblazer in fostering change and meeting social and community needs through strategic planning, board and leadership planning, and organizational development. Her all-encompassing nonprofit experience includes organizations in the arts, education, Jewish communal, environmental, public safety, and health agencies. Leslie is a member of the Association of Talent Development (ATD) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Leslie holds a Master’s in Urban Planning from the School of Public Administration of New York University and a B.S. in Business Administration from UC Berkeley, she is a Certified Governance Trainer for BoardSource, and an Associate Certified Board with the International Coach Federation. Her other involvement includes being a Visiting Lecturer at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles.
