The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is pleased to announce a new cycle of grants in support of community-focused teaching artists, creative collaborations at social justice organizations, and individual LA-based master artists. The application deadline these program categories listed below is MondayNovember 7, 2022, for projects taking place during the 2023-24 fiscal year (July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024).

NEAR Grants: Neighborhood Engagement Artist Residency (NEAR) grants provide up to $12,000 to support a single teaching artist who serves as a project leader to design and manage a series of community-relevant workshops that culminate in a public, community presentation.

CO-OP Grants: The Creative Opportunities-Optimizing Promise (CO-OP) program offers grants of up to $15,000 to foster teaching artist-led creative collaborations at social justice organizations in the city. In contrast to NEAR projects, a CO-OP proposal should be submitted by a nonprofit social justice organization that seeks to employ a freelance teaching artist, or by a nonprofit arts organization that seeks to expand an already-employed teaching artist’s responsibilities to serve a social justice organization. DCA invites proposals for CO-OP projects citywide, with a special emphasis on expanding the projects DCA had supported with NEA funding in social justice organizations based in the federally registered South LA- Promise Zone (City Council Districts 8, 9, 10, and 15, south of the 10 freeway and north of 228th Street). For more information, including eligibility requirements, program timelines, and application instructions, please review the guidelines for each program found at the appropriate link above. Questions may be directed to DCA grants staff at dca.grants@lacity.org. Interested parties are also invited to attend an in-person and/or online webinar -- please review the program guidelines for scheduled dates and registration instructions.

    Thank you and warm regards,

    DCA Grants Team
