CALIFORNIA LAWYERS FOR THE ARTS PRESENTS

    Copyright and Social Media Law

    (MCLE Available)

    with Don Dennis

Why is understanding social media law so important for artists and creatives?

The use of social media has created a digital revolution for the arts sector. Social media platforms offer artists the ability to share their work with a worldwide audience and provide a pathway for monetizing their creative work. Unfortunately, it can be challenging to manage how your work is utilized by others once it has been uploaded online because it can quickly take on a life of its own.

This workshop will discuss the legal issues related to intellectual property, copyright, compensation, and best practices that artists, organizations, and others should be aware of while using social media as a distribution channel for music, visual art, and other creative work.

It is essential for content creators to be aware of their legal obligations and know how to safeguard their creations while utilizing social media's massive audience-building potential.

Topics and Questions Discussed will Include:

    Terms and Conditions:

What am I agreeing to when I sign up for a social media account?

    Licensing, Copyright and Intellectual Property:

Steps you can take to protect your creative work and investment.

Best practices for sharing creative work online.

    Copyright Infringement:

What to do if someone is using my work online without my permission?

Do online platforms like IG, TikTok and YouTube protect my work? Will they support me in making things right?

    For Attorneys:

How can I support a client whose work is being used without their consent?

Helpful tips for what attorneys should and should not do when supporting clients with social media disputes.

Please Note: MCLE credit will require an additional fee plus the cost of general registration. At checkout you will be prompted to add on the MCLE fee to your registration.
